Another Indian PCLinuxOS Remaster

intux - yet another indian pclinuxos remaster

A group of Engineering Students of India are bringing out Intux, yet another PCLinuxOS remaster. It seems more or less like Granular, a polished pclos remaster from India.

Intux developers aim to offer the easiest Linux derivative which will help users sync in with their daily computing needs of web browsing, multimedia playback, programming and some office works. Their process is to 'make the already sensible linux simpler'. A bold proclamation indeed!

I know Granular people are doing a great job. I think Granular is the best native Linux desktop of India. Would not it be better if the Intux people joined Granular instead of spinning PCLinuxOS just one more time???? Just a thought for you readers.

As of writing this post, the Intux people have not mentioned any specifications (in terms of kernel, apps, xorg etc.) of their version of remaster. Well, IntuxOS 0.98 Beta edition is a Live DVD available to download and try. It has also started an Intux 'Ship IT' policy. Those who cannot download can request one Intux DVD at shipit@intuxproject.org

This pclinuxos remaster seems quite promising.

I don't think so. Granular is the best pclinuxos remaster in India and across the world. Intux has to map a long distance to reach the maturity of Granular.

hi manamth,
i fail to understand that how can u even comapre Intux with other distribution as we are only at our first beta!
Trust me! Intux will keep its promises for being a simple and sensible Linux Distro.. it has just been 20 odd days since our first beta!
the final edition is stated to be out at end of may and then Intux will start! you better ask granular people how was their first edition before getting matured !

Intux- We promise to make sensible Linux simpler and user friendly

OK, we are all eagerly waiting for the Intux final.

Believe me, when I first came across Intux news, it all seemed funny. Even I found your release note (that pdf file) is direct copy of Granular and only you had replaced the Granular with Intux.

Also I tried the Intux Beta found to be very buggy. Of course, you are right when you say one can't expect perfection for the first beta. But it seemed worse than a local remaster. A person using remasterme feature of pclinuxos would have done it better.

Well, my best wishes to you and your team. And my suggestion is to refer stability of Granular and PCLinuxOS as a frame of reference while you roll out your final.

Regards.

Hi Saleem,

I am also a big fan of Granular. Anurag has really spelled magic into Desktop Linux through his distro.

As for Linux in Pakistan, it is growing quite rapidly. I regularly find very enthusiastic Linux people from Pakistan on IRC and various forums.

India & Pakistan will see maximum Linux uses and developers after the bandwidth and internent penetration reaches to a decent level in this subcontinent.

And blame it on the "once up on a time there was RedHat 9". Some poor souls still think redhat 9 is the latest and most stable distro due to lack of knowledge. Hope more internet penetration will educate people about the latest and the great distros such as pclinuxos, granular, mepis, mint and others....

thanks for your comment.

Hello Manmath,

I have installed and made many remasters of PCLinuxOS MiniMe 2008.

I am tripple booting PCLinuxOS Minime 2008,TinyMe 2008 and Granular 1.0 Preview.

Granular Linux is a nicely crafted Indian remaster of PCLinuxOS and it is rock solid with its own packages and a very helping community including Anurag and Chrisz.

I do know about Intux and I am awaiting for their final release, which seems to be delayed. This distribution looks promising to me and I will be touching it definitely.

One thing is clear to me that the Indians are far ahead in Linux as they are in other walks of life ( No politics ) and this is a good example for us from Pakistan where still people use either Red Hat 9 or more recently another dead horse known as KarachiOS.

How about this
